How to use the calculator

Enter the insert designation in the request field: turning (CNMG120408-UR GC4325), grooving (MGMN300-G P6205) or threading (16ER 0.7 AG60). Specify the source brand and the target brand. If desired, specify the material, operation and cutting conditions. The tool instantly produces results according to the hierarchy: Exact → Seat-match → Safe → Conditional.

Four Levels of Confidence

Exact—direct cross found in the database. The article is one to one.

Seat-match—there is no exact cross, but a plate with the same ISO 1832 fit (type + IC + thickness) was found. Requires checking the 4th letter (fastening), chipbreaker and radius.

Safe—type recognized, material and operation known, equivalent grade grade recommended. Suitable for quick replacement with the chipbreaker specified by the manufacturer.

Conditional—the type is recognized, but the source data is incomplete. Approximate recommendation: start with Vc −10...15% and control the chips.

Explanation of ISO 1832

For turning inserts, the tool automatically decodes the ISO 1832 designation: shape (C/D/S/T/W/V/R), clearance angle, dimensional tolerance, clamping method, inscribed circle diameter and thickness. This allows you to quickly check compatibility with the holder.

Chipbreaker is a key parameter

The alloy can be replaced with an equivalent grade. Chipbreaker - no. Chipbreaker geometry affects surface quality, chip shape, and insert load. The tool determines the chipbreaker from the line (UR, PM, GF, HM...) and warns if it is not specified - this is a signal to check with the customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is P|balanced, P|tough, P|wear? Classification by material (P = steel) and task: balanced - universal, tough - tough for intermittent cuts, wear - wear-resistant for finishing.

Why is there no 1:1 guarantee on geometry? Each manufacturer has a unique chipbreaker geometry. Safe/Conditional is alloy grade, not geometry. For a 100% match, you need Exact or a proprietary cross-match catalog.

What thread plate profiles are supported? ISO, AG60, UN/UNF/UNC, ACME, TR (trapezoid). NPT and BSP profiles - with warning (conical).

The second mode is “Conditions → alloys”: specify the ISO group of the material, type of operation (F/M/R) and stability. The engine will select the optimal class and specific brands.

Three performance classes

Each alloy belongs to one of three classes within the ISO group:

Wear (wear-resistant) - for finishing with a stable cut. High hardness, lower viscosity. Analogs: GC4315 KCP15B TT8115 TP1500 WPP10.

Balanced (universal) - the main range, combines wear resistance and strength. Analogues: GC4325 · KCP25B · TT8125 · TP2500 · WPP20.

Tough (viscous) - for intermittent cuts, vibrations, unstable clamping. Analogs: GC4335 · TT8135 · UE6110 · TP3500 · WPP30.

What does "Safe" mean as a result? The application class is determined exactly from the database. Recommended analogues have the same application window (ISO group + load type).

How does Conditional differ from Safe? Conditional is issued when the class is built from processing conditions (and not from the alloy base directly). The result is reliable if the parameters are correctly specified, but requires confirmation from the catalog.

Does Safe guarantee full interchangeability? No. This corresponds to the application window (ISO group + perf class). Chipbreaker geometry, nose radius and coating are separate selections via the Insert Analog calculator.
